My Approach

I create a welcoming space of warmth and non-judgement, where children are free to learn and parents are honored.

Connection-Driven

Humans need learning environments rooted in in-person relationships. We need stories, songs, shared experiences, and the shepherded knowledge of those before us. Here, the quality of the relationships is prioritized so people feel safe enough to make mistakes, be themselves, and grow.

Slow- Paced

Development is truly a life-long process. We combat the hustle of life by creating a space to exhale, pause, integrate, listen, and reconnect. We reject quick-fixes, band-aids, and pushing through pain. Rather, we emphasize a healthy sleep , supportive rhythms, and quality breath-life.

Body-Based

The body is seen as the vessel for the soul. It holds the impact of your story as well as the wisdom of your highest self. When the body is strong, aligned, and healthy, we are more capable of competently facing the challenges life will offer us.

Movement- Centered

Movement is how we learn, heal, and grow. It is through movement that our brains create the neural networks that lay the foundation for how we make sense of the world. Here, movement is brought through archetypal patterns to integrate the body and reflexes, ultimately re-shaping the brain.

Hello! I’m Emily, and I am so grateful you are here.

My career journey truly began after the birth of my first child in 2014. As a young mother, I faced countless obstacles many parents today experience from a traumatic birth story to breastfeeding issues and a colicky baby all while navigating relationships with my partner, parents, and peers.

I was roped up into unreachable concepts of parenting perfection, which left me feeling like a failure as a mother and woman.

Relationships began to fall apart and so did I.

So, as many people do in the face of stress, I decided to do… more… ?

I received a Master’s in Family Education, probably to prove to myself that I am, in fact, a good mother. If I have a degree in it, I must be good at it, right?

I went on to work in Parent Education in a local public school, supporting other parents in their journey. I was so humbled in these spaces. I noticed my same challenges of self worth and value, fear of failure, and insecurities were running rampant.

So I realized it couldn’t be an individual fault. It must be a system, a system humans were not designed to raise children in, and that children were never meant to be raised in.

We are all so overwhelmed by the sensory world thrusting us with products, promises, and fractured pictures of wellness, ultimately removing us from our own divine knowledge, a knowledge rooted in the body.

Parents no longer parent from collective knowledge and intuition. And children are no longer learning through their bodies but, prematurely, through their brains.

Around the birth of my second child in 2019, I found Waldorf and RIE philosophies, and they changed everything for me. They propelled my further study of development through Waldorf Extra Lesson, an approach that supports people in removing obstacles to learning and healthy development through movement.

I then received training in Craniosacral Therapy to better understand how the body holds tension, trauma, and unhealthy developmental patterns - then to, ultimately, help support the body in healing itself of these traumas from the inside out.

After working in both public schools and Waldorf Education, I now weave everything together in a private practice that centers on whole person development: development of the head, heart, and hands, above all else.

At Tending the Currents, your family is welcome, valued, and supported.
